Well Elizabeth, funny you should ask... A few weeks ago I asked myself and a coworker who also lives nearby that same question. So, we undertook an unsolicited scientific study where we ordered 7 dishes from China Taste (corner of Staring and Highland), and the same 7 dishes from China Bear (corner of Bluebonnet and Perkins) simultaneously. We had 7 people over (all guys as my wife was out of town that evening) to take part in this blind taste test, and we made up scorecards judging each dish on qualities including freshness, meat quality, flavor, texture, visual appearance, etc... Let me tell you, it was a lot of food, and we ended up freezing a lot of leftovers. At first the testers wondered if it was a hoax because the dishes side by side looked very similar, however, once the taste testing began, the differences became evident. China Bear was far superior in all dish categories. However, barring a side by side comparison, China Taste is also good stuff. Ira

Our family loves chinese. We have ordered out 3 times from this new Chinese restaurant and we were pleased. Egg rolls are huge. The shrimp with broccoli was really good. Kung Pao Shrimpw was delicious, and we also liked the shrimp fried rice. Prices were reasonable. They are also very nice when you go to pick up your food.

This afternoon I decided to try Italian Pie. They met my three requirements--it wasn't pizza, they delivered, and I could put it on my Visa card. I ordered a roast beef sandwich, which arrived on hot, crispy po-boy bread. It was dressed with mayo, lettuce, and tomato. I also ordered lasagna and chicken parmesan. Those came with salad, and an 8" garlic bread pizza, which just looked like a cheese pizza to me. The salads were fresh and pretty good. Alan tried the lasagna and the chicken parmesan, and while it wasn't Gino's, he said it was pretty good. It was packed in aluminum containers and arrived hot. We had enough for 2 meals. The lasagna (with salad and bread) was about $10, and so was the chicken parmesan. The sandwich was $6.25. I had the sandwich and salads, and enjoyed it.

We especially like the Lavash Wraps: EXCELLENT taste, very large for a big appetite, and a great value. I began this search myself as I declared Wednesday my no-cook night to ensure at least one stress free night with the kids during the week. Italian Pie was my first discovery. I usually get one of the calzones - the Shrimp Florentine is delicious. I've also had the Roasted Eggplant wrap which was great. My husband creates his own pizza and he is always pleased. They deliver quick, good, non-pizza, decently priced food. I'm hoping this will become a trend for the surrounding businesses.

We do http://PapaJohns.com about once a week. If you consider the chicken strips and wings, papa meets your three criteria (not pizza, they deliver, and you can charge it). Unless there is some big event, delivery is usually pretty fast. I think the item we we usually pick is the "family special' but the order is for a large pizza with the works and another with two items which comes out to just under twenty dollars with tax. Some hints: We are partial to the thin crusts, they will do the usual half one thing and half another, online ordering is a better deal than local coupons, and you can change the items on the specials. BTW:We place our order online, and I think the papajohns website has one of the best designs I've seen in terms of usability.

I live in Covington but my daughter lives on Maggy Woods, and I just had all of my baths and showers replaced by a company called New Bath out of New Orleans. They were GREAT!! The came in, covered everything with drop cloths, replaced the faucets and drains, and installed shiny white acryllic tubs and stalls. It runs somewhere between 2 and 4 K per unit and usually only takes one day. Their professionalism is worth it. Ask for Derek to do your installation.

They were very professional and a pleasure to work with. Ab Ahrens and his wife Kathy did an excellent job painting walls, trim, and ceilings throughout the downstairs of our house. They were pleasant to have in the house, worked around areas where we were living, and worked quickly and on the schedule they had promised. They provided the paint and gave helpful color suggestions; prep work and covering cracks were done well. The price was reasonable. They do have a waiting list, so we waited about 4 months, but it was worth it.

Steve Martin goes above and beyond. He is detail oriented, experienced in selecting paint colors, and also does excellent carpentry and repair work. He built shelves for our home that look like they are original to the house. He's repaired interior walls and replaced a water-damanged ceiling in our home. He installed our locking mailbox, and to give you an idea of how detail oriented he is, he stopped our postman and talked to him about the height requirements for installing the new box. He only works on one job at a time, and he doesn't leave the job until it is finished. With the first project we asked him to give an estimate for, he was twice as expensive as the lowest estimate (one that we felt was underbid), and half as expensive as the highest estimate (which came from Home Care).

We have had our alarm with Alarm Center since 1986. Call them and ask for either Tom Taylor or Brian Watson and tell them Dell Riley told you to call. We were one of their first customers when Alarm Center was "Cajun Security". They grew and grew and grew and bought out several other companies. They rspond quickly and give great service. We have service with Certified Alarms and have been using them for 4 years and have been very pleased. The monthly monitoring fee is about $22. If our alarm goes off, they call within 30 seconds and the person has to answer the password question OR the police will be dispatched. There is also a panic button if someone comes in with you, which is a silent alarm directly to the police station. There are also other panic buttons, one for EMS and one for the fire department. We wired our entire house, all doors and windows and it was less than $2,000. It comes with 3 years free monitoring. The cost of wiring depends on how many doors and windows you have.

We have an alarm system by Customs Security. Haven't had any problem with it. It seems to me that the delay from the time it is activated till they call is a little long. Then they try other people before they call the police. They could rob the house and be long gone befor the police would arrive.

As for security systems, we have Custom Security. Fortunately, the only alarms we've had go off were false ones, but they are very prompt in calling either to confirm the alarm signal and send the police or fire department. Our system had already been installed when we purchased the house, so I don't know pricing on that, but the yearly service fee is about $270.

Several people use them and from all accounts feel comfortable with them. I would not recommend Allied Security Systems. The monthly fees start around $22 a month, but will increase depending on what your needs are.

As to security systems, we have three dogs that will lick you to death but sound ferocious and neighbors that are mostly at home all day. My informal method of knowing how well the neighborhood is watched is to see how quickly people get their snail mail. My neighbors get their mail fast. Our immediate neighbors let each other know when we won't be home for some extended length of time and who is welcome in the house while they are gone. I know their grandkids by sight if not by name. I've also got some tech stuff that tracks stuff around the house but that's more for play than concern about theft on our dead-end, well watched street.
